Common names

Laurus nobilis (Bay tree). The leaves have been used to crown the heroes of Greece and Rome as well as scent and flavouring foods. It is a slender, conical plant when young and will reach 30 feet in about 25 years. It is a beautiful evergreen tree produces aromatic dark green foliage, with small white flowers which are insignificant and are followed by dark berries.


You can grow them in a frost-hardy climate and plant in fertile, well-drained soil with full sun.

Banks, specimen, ornamental, culinary herb, fragrance, hedging, container, shelter. Spring interest. Suitable for coastal conditions.
