Hemerocallis fulva (Orange day lily). This species will spread rapidly. The large fleshy roots will help to control erosion as they spread. The leaves are dark green and will form an arching fountain-shaped clump. The flowers are unscented but beautiful and coloured a rich orange with darker accents. Water these plants every week in the peak of summer heat. Usually one application of fertilizer is enough for Day Lilies at the beginning of the growing season; over-fertilising can lead to lush foliage, but a weakened floral display. Deadheading will promote better flowering.
