Plant Finder: about Begonia grandis

Common names

Hardy begonia

Begonia grandis (Hardy begonia). This is a half hardy Begonia. It is ideal for container growing, but it must be protected from the severe cold weather. The blooms are delicate and pink; they will appear from early summer until the first frost. The foliage will range in colour from almost luminous green to a reddish tinge.

Grow in light well-drained soil or loam-based potting compost. Water frequently in hot weather but do not allow the soil to become too moist. A balanced liquid fertiliser can be applied occasionally especially when in full growth. Pot on each spring. They prefer slightly acidic soil.

I am interested in all things horticultural, the more unusual the better. My passion is for tropical plants which I propagate both for my garden and to sell.
