Plant Finder: about Geranium madarense

Common names

Geranium madarense (Cranesbill). This perennial species will produce large rosettes of big fern-like leaves, each leaf is then divided lobed and toothed and covered with purplish hair. The flowers are produced in magenta blooms which are darkly veined throughout the spring.

They are fully to half hardy. Most species will prefer sun, but some do better in the shade. They will grow in any but waterlogged soil. Outdoors, grow larger species and hybrids in any moderately fertile, well-drained soil. Grow small species and hybrids in humus-rich, sharply drained soil in full sun. Under glass, grow half hardy species in loam-based potting compost with added sharp sand, in bright filtered light. During the growing season, water freely and apply a balanced liquid fertilizer monthly. Water sparingly in winter.

I am interested in all things horticultural, the more unusual the better. My passion is for tropical plants which I propagate both for my garden and to sell.
