Bamboo
Pleioblastus auricomus (Bamboo). There are about 20 species, they are mostly dwarf to medium sized. They will produce slender hollow stems with small narrow leaves. The leaves are lance shaped with cross veins that give a tessellated appearance. The flowers are produced at varying intervals but are not decorative.
They are very frost hardy. They should be planted in loose, moist, well-drained soil with sun or partial-shade, make sure you water well in the summer.
Used for hedging as well as for ornamental purposes. The woody stems can have many uses. Suitable for coastal conditions.
