A beautiful giant of a plant for the back of the border (though I have it planted right at the front – just to be different!) it particularly likes deep retentive soil and is ideal by a pond side. Strong leafy branching stems support a long display of large lemon yellow daisies, well into the Autumn, the broad petals reflexed from upright lime green central green cones.
Rudbeckia ‘Herbstonne’ (Coneflower). This upright perennial has large, yellow-orange flowerheads with conical green centres, which are carried singly on tall stems in late summer and early autumn. Has medium green, lobed leaves.
They will prefer loamy, moisture-retentive soil in full sun or partial-shade.
Flower arranging, prairie planting, beneficial insects.
