Geranium x oxonianum 'Elworthy Misty'

For sale by Jenny Wren Garden Plants

This grower is sure of this plant identification.

Oxonianum is the stereotypical "pink cranesbill" that grows everywhere and takes over your garden if you let it. This however is an improved form with lovely dark pink flowers showing darker veining, and attractive marked foliage which is pretty in its own right. Well-behaved and long-flowering. Sun or part shade, 30 cm x 45 cm.

Plant Finder: about the Geranium genus

Common names

Cranesbill, Geranium

Geranium genus (Cranesbill). There are about 300 species of annual, biennial and perennial geraniums, some of which are evergreen. The leaves are broadly circular in outline but usually palmately lobed. The flowers are small and showy and will bloom in pink, blue or purple.

They are fully to half hardy. Most species will prefer sun, but some do better in the shade. They will grow in any but waterlogged soil. Outdoors, grow larger species and hybrids in any moderately fertile, well-drained soil. Grow small species and hybrids in humus-rich, sharply drained soil in full sun. Under glass, grow half hardy species in loam-based potting compost with added sharp sand, in bright filtered light. During the growing season, water freely and apply a balanced liquid fertilizer monthly. Water sparingly in winter.

Interest and use

Grown for their attractive flowers and often as ground cover. Compact species are suitable for rock gardens. Suitable for coastal conditions.
