Large-leaved saxifrage, Elephant's ear
Bergenia cordifolia (Large-leaved saxifrage). This species has thick glossy heart-shaped evergreen leaves that makes an ideal ground cover. The flowers are pale pink and will bloom between late winter and early spring. You will need to cut back if the stems get leggy and divide in the spring after flowering if your plants become too crowded. The delicate flowers are less cold-hardy than the leaves.
They are fully to frost hardy and will tolerate sun or shade in any well drained soil, but the leaf colour is best on poor soil and in full sun.
Ground cover, border, walls. Spring interest.
