Plant Finder: about Salvia nemorosa ‘Schneehugal’

Common names

Meadow sage, Sage

Salvia nemorosa ‘Schneehugal’ (Meadow sage). This species is a clump-forming perennial which produces upright spikes of pinkish purple or white blooms in late summer to mid autumn on branching racemes. The leaves are rough and have a narrow elliptical shape.

Some species will tolerate only light frosts, but some of the perennials are more frost-hardy. They will grow well when planted in full sun in well drained light soil with adequate watering in the summer.

Interest and use

Grown for their tubular, 2-lipped, often brightly coloured flowers and aromatic foliage. Leaves of some species may be used for flavouring foods. Suitable for coastal conditions.
