Plant Finder: about Hoya carnosa

Common names

Wax plant, Honey plant, Wax flower

Hoya carnosa (Wax plant). The common name for this species is the Wax Plant, which is ideally grown in the greenhouse or hanging basket. It is a semi-succulent climbing vine with thick, shiny evergreen foliage and densely clustered flowering heads of star-shaped pink, white or red blossoms. They will need full sun or light shade and well drained, humus-rich soil. Keep them well-watered during the growing period in the spring and summer and less during winter. Propagation can be by root cuttings in late spring to early summer, semi-ripe cuttings in summer or seeds indoors year-round.

Stems require support. Cut back and thin out crowded stems after flowering or in spring.
