Description

Aloe barbadensis (Aloe). This is a tender perennial with mottled grey-green succulent leaves which will grow in a rosette-shaped clump. The flowers are produced in a spike of bell-shaped yellow flowers in the summer on plants that are well-established.

Cultivation

They will grow well in full sun, but it will also tolerate some partial shade. It will need very well drained soil which is drought tolerant.

Interest and use

Ornamental, medicinal, indoors, rock garden, container, greenhouse.

The gel which is found inside the leaves is used to relieve pain from burns. It can also soothe sunburn, and is used in cosmetics.
