Aechmea fasciata (Silver Vase Plant). Previously known as Billbergia rhodocyanea, this species has silver-grey, round-tipped broad, oblong leaves with silver cross-banding. The blue-purple flowers are borne in dense, pyramid-shaped panicles, amongst large pink bracts from spring to autumn.


Grow in moist, gritty, free-draining soil in a frost-free place. Under glass, this plant needs bright, filtered light. Can be grown as an epiphyte.
