Plant Finder: about the Phalaenopsis genus

Common names

Moth orchid, Orchid

Description

Phalaenopsis genus (Moth orchid). They will produce broad leaves which are plain green or spotted. The flowers are most commonly shining white but sometimes pale pink and appearing at almost any time of year.

Cultivation

They will need tropical and subtropical climates with a warm but well-ventilated greenhouse with filtered light. Make sure they have a constant moisture and a rich but open and perfectly drained compost. In temperate climates, they need to be grown in greenhouses. Can be grown in pots but also on slabs of bark. Weak foliar feeds can be added to the sprays.

Interest and use

Grown for their beautiful and unusual flowers.
