Plant Finder: about the Freesia genus

Freesia genus. There are about 6 species of perennials which are widely grown for their bright cup-shaped, deliciously scented spring flowers. The wild species will bloom yellow, pink or purple. The medium green leaves are narrow or sword-shaped at the base of the plant.

They are half hardy, and will require a full sun with well-drained soil. You can plant in the autumn and water throughout the winter. Support with twigs or small canes.

Interest and use

Grown for their usually fragrant flowers, which are popular for cutting.
