Plant Finder: about Salvia officinalis

Common names

Sage, Garden sage, Common sage

Salvia officinalis (Sage). This is an essential culinary herb. It will live long with its attractive, grey-green oval, leafed foliage. It will grow about 75cm high. The flowers bloom in short racemes of blue-mauve, white, pink or blue in early summer to mid autumn.

Some species will tolerate only light frosts, but some of the perennials are more frost-hardy. They will grow well when planted in full sun in well drained light soil with adequate watering in the summer.
