Chamaecyparis obtusa (Hinoki). This is a tall broad conical evergreen tree from Japan. The foliage is a rich dark green and alternately arranged, they will range in height from 10m to 36m with a wide trunk and red-brown flaky bark.
They are tolerant of chalky soils but grow best in moist but well drained neutral to slightly acid soil. If the conifer produces more than one leader, to maintain the general conical habit remove all but one leader. To restrict the height of the plant, the leader can be cut back.
