Wood anemone, Windflower
Anemone nemorosa (Wood anemone). A. nemerosa is a vigorous, carpet-forming perennial that produces masses of star-shaped white flowers held on thin purple stems in the spring and early summer which sometimes are flushed pink on the reverse. The foliage is deeply cut and mid green. A. nemorosa is often found in the wild in Northern Europe and often indicate ancient woodland.
This plant likes a woodland setting and thrives in humus-rich, well drained soil in full sun or part shade. They are prone to frost damage and tubers become weakened after blooming so can be treated as annuals. Watch out, as it is poisonous.
