Campanula rotundifolia (Harebell). An upright creeping perennial herb native to Britain & N. Europe bearing opposite, heart-shaped, toothed pale green leaves and panicles of whitish blue bell-shaped flowers in mid-summer. STEM: Low-growing, turning upright to flower. ROOT: Creeping underground stems. HAIRS: Absent above, short below. STIPULES: Absent LEAF-STALK: Lower much longer than blade; upper absent. BRACTS: Small, straight-sided. FLOWER STALK: Long, slender, nodding. SEPALS: 5, slender, speeding apart. PETALS: 5, joined, bell-shaped, lobes broadly oval. STAMENS: 5, inside tube. STIGMA: 3; style long. OVARY: 1, below sepals, 3-celled. SEEDS: Numerous, oblong.


They are fully to half hardy and are grown in the sun or shade. Most of the species will prefer moist but well drained soil. Delicate flower colours are preserved best in shade.
