Centranthus ruber (Red valerian). This is a deciduous annual or perennial stalked clump which is native to the Mediterranean. The leaves are lanceolate to ovate they are pointed and dark green-brown. The long flowering fragrant blooms are white-green and reddish pink; they will make excellent cut flowers.
They are tolerant of drought conditions and will thrive in poor soil. Cut back spent stems to encourage a second bloom period in mild areas.
