Lotus corniculatus (Bird's foot trefoil). A common meadow wild flower that is a valuable source of nectar for insects and forage food for livestock. The name refers to its elongated seedpods with a hook-like tip similar to a bird’s foot. Often grown by beekeepers.

A moderately winter hardy plant found in the wild in N. Europe. It requires summer temperatures of 15-25C for optimum growth.


Prefers moderately fertile, well-drained soil with full sun.

Interest and use

Wildflower/meadow, also suitable for coastal conditions.
