Common names



Potentilla erecta (Tormentil). This plant is often found in the wild in Northern Europe. STEM: Low-growing to nearly upright, slender, branched. ROOT: Thick, woody stock. HAIRS: Short, pressed to surface. STIPULES: Present, like leaflets, lobed. LEAF-STALK: Long below, absent above. BRACTS: Leaf-like, upper undivided. FLOWER STALK: Much longer than flower. SEPALS: 4, spear-shaped, pointed, surrounded by bract-like structures. PETALS: 4, tip notched. STAMENS: 14-20 STIGMA: 1 per ovary. OVARY: 4-8, rarely to 20, 1-celled. SEEDS: Not released.


They grow in well-drained, fertile soil. They will thrive in full sun in temperate climates, You can propagate by division in the spring, or from seeds or by division in autumn.
