Tulipa linifolia (Tulip). This species will produce striking red blooms with dark purple-black centres. This is an early-blooming flower ideal for your spring border. Grow in full sun, and the blooms will open fully to lie flat. You should plant in the autumn in a well-dug enriched soil to a depth of 20cms.
They are mostly fully hardy and will require a sunny position with well drained soil and will appreciate a summer baking. In cool wet areas bulbs may be lifted, when the leaves have died down, and stored in a dry place for replanting in autumn. They will need cold winters. You should plant in the late autumn in a sunny position.
