Foxtail agave, Dragon tree agave
Agave attenuata (Foxtail agave). This species will grow to about 1.5m high and will produce rosettes of broad, pale green leaves. The flowers are carried in arched spikes which will grow to about 3m with green to yellow blooms in the spring and summer.
Most of the species have hard, blue-grey leaves that are half hardy, whilst the grey-green or green leaved species are usually frost tender, min 5C. Grow them in full sun with well drained soil. In their native habitat, Agave will survive hot deserts and dry, sunny mountain sides.
An architectural plant grown for its form and foliage, but also occasional dramatic flowering.
