Popular form and justly so. Big leaves with the intense blue and corrugation of Tokudama, but the vigour of a good Sieboldiana. Probably too strong for a pot specimen, and best out of glaring afternoon sun for season long colour retention. Will make a spectacular plant 1m tall by 1.5m wide when happy.
Plaintain Lily 'Big Daddy'
Hosta ‘Big Daddy’ (Plaintain Lily 'Big Daddy'). This is an early flowering hosta with large, heart-shaped, blue-grey quilted leaves. Flowers are grey-white and arrive in June.
Prefers a cool and shady spot and moist conditions, so keep well mulched and conserve water by watering early in the morning or late at night, avoiding the leaves. Feeding the plant will produce more luxuriant foliage, but it will also make it tastier for slugs and snails. Protect from slugs early in the season. If growing in a container it might be worthwhile to use nematodes.
Grown primarily for foliage.
