This grower is sure of this plant identification.
The species that all fragrant Hosta hybrids must thank for their scent. The satin sheen on the mid green leaves of this plant is also often passed on. Give this plant a warm sunny spot with plenty of water and it will reward with long pure white aromatic trumpet flowers in august and september, which are not unlike those of Nicotiana. A pity my photograph here can't be scratch'n'sniff!!
Autumn lily, Fragrant plaintain lily, Maruba, Yusan
Hosta plantaginea (Autumn lily). This species will produce large white blooms with an intense fragrance; they are produced on stems above the mounded mid-green foliage. This is an excellent species for cut flowers which will appear in late summer and continues on into the autumn.
All Hostas need some shade and few will thrive in open strong sunlight. A general rule is that the lighter foliage, the brighter the sunlight that will be tolerated. Variegated varieties tend to require more sun to keep their white, light green or gold stripes. The darker, bluer varieties need more shade.
Once established, Hostas are pretty tough and will spread horizontally to make excellent ground cover.
