This species is from the higher mountains of the South African Cape. The leaves are large and leathery with a distinct red margin. Produces large peach-pink flowers with a white beard. Requires a free draining soil and a sunny position. Wind tolerant and able to withstand quite hard frost.
Protea grandiceps. A slow growing species with deep orange pink flowers and dull greyish green oval leaves.
They need an open, sunny position with light acidic, well-drained soil. You need to prune after flowering to maintain shape and to promote new growth.
