Large leathery evergreen leaves with scarlet Autumn tints. Deep carmine-pink flowers Feb/Mar-Jun. 45cm. Any soil in sun or shade. Award of Garden Merit.
Bergenia ‘Morgenrote’ (Elephant's ear). An evergreen, clump forming perennial with rounded, crinkled and deep green leaves. Spiked, open cup-shaped, deep red-purple flowers are borne in spring, often followed by a second crop in summer.
They are fully to frost hardy and will tolerate sun or shade in any well drained soil, but the leaf colour is best on poor soil and in full sun.
Grown for their leaves which make good ground cover. Suitable for coastal conditions.
