Sea Kale. This dramatic plant can be found wild on pebble beaches. Hence well-drained soil and is salt tolerant. 1 to 1.5 m glaucous blue cabbage-like leaves. Mass of small white flowers.
Crambe maritima (Sea kale). A spreading robust small perennial which forms a silvery green mound of cabbage-like, toothed and lobed leaves with curled and crisped margins. In late spring and summer it produces dense, spikes of honey-scented creamy white flowers to 75 cm tall. The young leafy shoots are cooked like asparagus, and often blanched to lessen the bitterness.
