Pheasant tail grass, New Zealand wind grass
Stipa arundinacea (Pheasant tail grass). This is a large clump-forming evergreen grass. It is grown for its attractive foliage and flowers. The leaves are long narrow and dark green tinged orange. In the winter, the whole clump will turn a rich rusty orange colour. In mid summer, arching stems of fluffy, pinkish-purple flowers will appear. (Syn. Anemanthele lessoniana.)
You can plant in full sun in well-drained soil.
Grown for their habit and the flowers can be used for dried arrangements.
