Leyland cypress, Cypress
× Cupressocyparis leylandii ‘Gold Rider’ (Leyland cypress). This is a tall evergreen tree cross between Chamaecyparis nootkatensis and Cupressus macrocarpa. It grows up to 35m high. It can be used for hedging or as a screen because of its rapid growth.
If the conifer produces more than one leader, to maintain the general conical habit remove all but one leader. To restrict the height of the plant, the leader can be cut back.
Hedging. Screen. Year-round interest. Suitable for coastal conditions.
