Nymphaea ‘Atropurpurea’ (Water lily). These are deciduous, summer-flowering, perennial and water plants. The depth of water must be between 30cm and 1.5m. There grown for their floating usually rounded leaves and brightly coloured flowers. .
Most frost tender plants may be treated as annuals. These waterlillies can grow in most climates and will flower freely throughout the summer. The tropical waterlilies are frost tender, and will require a very warm, sunny situation with a minimum temperature of 10C. They flower from mid-summer into the autumn, and produce large, scented flowers which are held above the water surface. If you grow them in cooler areas, the tubers of tropical waterlilies should be lifted and stored in moist sand over the winter. Remove fading foliage to prevent it polluting water. Plants have tuber-like rhizomes and require dividing and replanting in spring or early summer every 3-4 years.
