The flower stems are 30 cm tall and bear 15 cm long heads of rich blue flowers, the effect deepened by purplish-brown calyces. After flowering, new rosettes of large glossy leaves, twice as large as other ajugas, assume this same dark hue.Any not too dry soil including heavy clay and bog .H&S 12in x 2ft

Ajuga reptans ‘Catlin's Giant’ (Bugleweed). This popular cultivar, also known as Ajuga reptans 'Macrophylla' has very large, dark bronze-purple leaves which grow up to 15 cm long. Dark blue flowers are borne in spike-like whorls up to 30cms high.


Grow in a sheltered position. Grow in partial shade or shade to avoid scorching of the leaves.

Interest and use

Grown for year round foliage interest as well as for flowers which are attractive to bees. Useful for path and border edging, as ground cover in shady areas as well as in containers.
