Plant Finder: about the Anacampseros genus

Anacampseros genus. A number of species of small perennial succulent plants native to South Africa, with one from Australia. All form basal rosettes of smooth or hairy leaves in dense mats and develop a small caudex as they age. The plants have white filamentous hairs along their stems and wheel-shaped flowers varying from white to purple. They produce self-fertile seeds in a cup of upright filaments.

Anacampseros grow to 10cm in height. They are dormant in winter and flower from time to time in summer on sunny days. They are intolerant of frost.

Anacampseros grow well in partial sunlight. Bright light enhances their leaf colour and helps keep them compact. They appreciate gritty free-draining soil with added organic material and low to moderate watering to avoid rot.
