This grower is sure of this plant identification.
New sections that need growing on. Deciduous if cold, with huge hairy leaves all summer that tend to persist well into autumn. Typical bergenia flowers (and pathetic pink, so I pick them off). Parent plant leaves about 30cm diameter.
Elephant's ear
Bergenia ciliata (Elephant's ear). This species produces large rounded leaves which are about 30cm wide and are fringed with red hairs. It will produce delicate white-pink blooms
They are fully to frost hardy and will tolerate sun or shade in any well drained soil, but the leaf colour is best on poor soil and in full sun.
Walls, rock garden, ground cover.
