Plant Finder: about Ceanothus ‘Concha’

Common names

Californian lilac

Ceanothus ‘Concha’ (Californian lilac). An evergreen shrub with spikes of bright blue flowers with a red hued bud grow in late spring. Leaves are lance-shaped and glossy, rich green.

They are frost to half hardy; in cold areas you should plant against a south or west facing wall. They will need a sheltered site in full sun and light well drained soil. Remember to cut out the dead wood from the evergreens in the spring and trim their side shoots after flowering. Cut back shoots of deciduous species to basal framework in early spring.
