Plant Finder: about Geranium cinereum

Description

Geranium cinereum. This is a small tufted perennial about 15cm tall, it will form a basal rosette of soft, deeply divided leaves. The cup-shaped flowers are white or pale pink often with purple veins, they are produced in late spring or early summer.

Cultivation

They are fully to half hardy. Most species will prefer sun, but some do better in the shade. They will grow in any but waterlogged soil. Outdoors, grow larger species and hybrids in any moderately fertile, well-drained soil. Grow small species and hybrids in humus-rich, sharply drained soil in full sun. Under glass, grow half hardy species in loam-based potting compost with added sharp sand, in bright filtered light. During the growing season, water freely and apply a balanced liquid fertilizer monthly. Water sparingly in winter.

Interest and use

Grown for their attractive flowers and often as ground cover. Compact species are suitable for rock gardens. Suitable for coastal conditions.
