Description

Alstroemeria haemantha ‘Parigo Charm’ (Peruvian lily). The colours of the outside petals on this Peruvian lily are mid pink, with pale green tips and dark pink crescent-shaped flushes. On the inner petals there are white and yellow splashes and dark brown flecks. The anthers are greenish yellow.

S. America

The genus was named after the Swedish botanist Baron Clas Alstromer 1736-94, a pupil of Linnaeus at Uppsala University who travelled widely collecting plants for Linnaeus.

Interest and use

Flowers last well when used for floral arrangements. Borders. Suitable for coastal conditions.

Cultivation

Frost hardy, but in very cold winters protect by covering dormant tubers with dry bracken or loose peat. Needs a well drained soil in a sunny, sheltered site.
