Description

Amelanchier arborea (Juneberry). This tree normally grows up to around 12m tall. The foliage is finely toothed and ovate to elliptical. The undersides of the young leaves are downy. The white, star-like flowers are profuse and held on pendulous racemes. In autumn, red-purple fruits are produced which look like tiny apples. The autumn also turns the foliage shades of red and orange.

Grown for floral and foliage interest. Popular with birds. The fruits can be used for pies and preserves.
