Description

Liriodendron tulipifera (Yellow poplar). This fast growing, deciduous tree has a broadly columnar habit and bears dark green lobed leaves that turn yellow in the autumn. The flowers are borne singly on the ends of the shoots in mid-summer and are followed by conical, pale brown clusters of fruits. The tree takes 10-15 years to flower for the first time.

Cultivation

Preferring a temperate climate, this species needs a slightly acidic soil, sun with some shade and well-drained, deep, fertile, soil. It will grow poorly in a drought situation and on alkaline soils. It will need plenty of room to grow. They are difficult to transplant.
