Description

Livistona australis (Australian cabbage palm). This is a tall species, The slender brown trunk shows the scars left by the shed fronds. The leaves are large and rounded. They produce long sprays of small yellow flowers which are borne in the spring.

Cultivation

These sub-tropical palms will tolerate frosts down to about 25°F or 4°C. Slow growing, they prefer deep, sandy soil. Need good sun light, produces more vigorous, deeper green foliage in dappled shade. They make excellent container plants. Propagate from seed in summer.

Propagation

You can propagate by seed in the spring to summer; they have a minimum germination temperature of 23C.
