Description

Anagallis tenella ‘Studland’ (Bog Pimpernel 'Studland'). A short-lived perennial with prostrate, mat-forming, tiny bright green leaves studded in spring with star-shaped, bright pink flowers which have a scent of honey.

Origin

Mediterranean & Europe.

The flowers only open in direct sunlight, which is where the genus name Anagallis comes from; the ancient Greek words 'ana' meaning 'again', and 'agallein' which means 'to delight in' referring to the way the petals open or close in varying light.

Interest and use

Rock gardens, edging, containers, gravel gardens. Fragrant.
