Description

Malus genus (Apple). This genus has about 35 species of deciduous flowering and fruiting trees. The leaves are simple and toothed, sometimes lobed. The flowers form clusters which vary from white to deep rose pink or deep reddish purple.

Interest and use

Grown for their fragrant flowers, fruits, foliage and autumn colour.

Cultivation

They will prefer a cool, moist climate with full sun with fertile, well-drained, loamy soil, you must protect from strong winds. In winter, cut out dead or diseased wood and prune to maintain a balanced branch stem.

Propagation

You can propagate by budding in late summer or by grafting in mid-winter.

Pests, diseases or disorders

Trees are sometimes attacked by aphids, caterpillars and red spider mite, and are susceptible to fireblight and apple scab.
