Description

Mammillaria compressa (Pincushion cactus). Clustering to form mounds up to 60cm or more. Individual stems are light blue green. The axils are white to pale red with darker tip. Flowers are deep purple-pink and fruits are red.

Cultivation

They are frost tender, with a minimum temperature of 5-10C. They require full sun for maximum flowering. They are easy to grow, and prefer light, sandy soil. Keep plants completely dry in the winter, otherwise they rot easily.

Propagation

You can propagate by seed in the spring and summer, or from offsets in summer.
