They are usually fully hardy and prefer a sunny position, or light shade with well drained soil. Dead-head flowers straight away and you can remove foliage during mid or late summer. Plant bulbs at one-and-a-half times their own depth in autumn, slightly deeper in light soils and in grass.
Fresh seed in late autumn or summer. Offsets can be separated and replanted as the leaves fade in early summer, or in early autumn before new roots form.
Pests, diseases or disorders
Narcissus yellow stripe virus, basal rot, slugs, large narcissus fly and bulb and stem eelworm may cause problems. Contact with the daffodil's sap may irritate the skin or aggravate skin allergies.
