Description

Narthecium ossifragum (Bog asphodel). This plant is often found in the wild in Northern Europe. STEM: Flowering stems upright. ROOT: Creeping, fleshy stem; roots thick, fibrous. HAIRS: Absent STIPULES: Absent LEAF-STALK: Absent BRACTS: Spear-shaped, equal to flower-stalk. FLOWER STALK: About equal to flower. SEPALS: Absent PETALS: 6-lobed perianth, narrowly spear-shaped, spread apart. STAMENS: 6, anthers red, base woolly. STIGMA: 1, tip swollen; style short. OVARY: 1, 3-celled. SEEDS: Many, middle swollen, ends thin, tail-like.
