Description

Nothofagus nervosa (Southern beech). There are about 25 species of evergreen and deciduous trees in this genus. They are fast-growing, and have dark green leaves with toothed margins. They produce small fruits which each contain 3 triangular seeds known as beechnuts.

Cultivation

They are fully to frost hardy and will grow in a variety of climates as long as they protection from strong winds. They prefer fertile, moist, but well-drained, acidic soil, with a position in full sun or semi-shade. They are not resistant to strong winds, and should have the shelter of other trees.

Propagation

You can propagate from cuttings in the summer or seed in autumn.
