Description

Anthericum genus (Spider plant). This is a genus of around 300 species of upright rhizomatous perennials with saucer or trumpet-shaped white flowers which arise from a clump of narrow, grass-like leaves.

Origin

The genus name comes from the Greek 'antherikos' which means 'straw' and which refers to the narrow leaves.

Interest and use

Suitable for coastal conditions.

Cultivation

Fully hardy. Likes a sunny site and fertile, well drained soil that does not dry out in summer.

Propagation

By division in spring or by seed in autumn.
