Description

Acalypha hispida (Red hot cat's tail). From Malaysia, this is a tall-growing upright, evergreen, upright shrub grown for its foliage and long red, fluffy, pendulous flowers. The leaves are large, oval and bright green to reddish bronze. The flowers will appear intermittently throughout the year.

Cultivation

This shrub is only grown outdoors in semi-tropical climates otherwise it does best in sheltered sites in full sun; in cool climates it requires a heated conservatory. The shrub will need regular watering in the growing season. Soil should be humus-rich and well drained. Regular pruning will maintain a bushy shape.
