Description

Papaver genus (Poppy). There are about 70 annuals, biennials or perennials, some of which are semi-evergreen in this genus. They will produce cupped petals of nodding buds. They are fully hardy and will need sun or semi-shade and prefer moist but well drained soil.

Grown for their cup-shaped flowers. Suitable for coastal conditions.

Cultivation

They are fully to frost hardy and will prefer little or no shade with deep, moist, well-drained soil. You should sow the seed in spring or autumn.

Propagation

Propagate by seed in autumn or spring. P.orientale and its cultivators are best propagated by root cuttings in winter. Self seeds readily.

Prone to aphids, and fungal wilts.
