Parkinsonia genus. There are about 12 species of evergreen and deciduous, spring-flowering shrubs and trees. The leaves are bright green and very short lived, the branches appear as bare stems for most of year, the advantage is that the golden pea-shaped flowers are produced in the spring, The fruit are brownish pea pods.

Prefer full sun and fertile, well-drained soil. Keep them reasonably dry in winter. A frost tender species. Sow seed in spring. Pruning is tolerated, but spoils the natural habit.
Scarified seed in spring grow rapidly.
Prone to red spider mite.
